New secure workspace with Wire Drive
Wire, Europe’s secure and sovereign collaboration platform, today introduced Wire Drive, a new capability that brings integrated file management and real-time document editing into Wire Messenger groups. The launch responds to growing demand for modern workplace tools that do not compromise data sovereignty or operational control. It also marks an important step in Wire’s strategy to bring together messaging, conferencing, file management and document workflows within a digital workspace that is privacy-first, secure by design and built with security at its core.
Wire Drive enables teams to store, organise, share and edit files directly within the context of secure group communication. Rather than switching between separate tools for messaging, file storage and document editing, users can now manage collaboration within a single environment. This reduces app switching, simplifies access management and ensures communication, files and decisions remain connected. Access to files is directly linked to verified group membership, keeping permissions aligned with the communication context while reducing friction for users.
Wire Drive also supports external sharing through public links with optional password protection and expiry settings. For teams requiring audit-ready collaboration, Wire Drive provides version-controlled editing, change tracking and file recovery within the Wire environment.
All Wire communications, including messages, calls and conferences, remain end-to-end encrypted using Messaging Layer Security (MLS), the IETF standard for next-generation secure group communication. For collaborative workflows, Wire Drive adds centralised encrypted storage integrated into Wire’s group-based access model. For highly sensitive use cases, Wire continues to support end-to-end encrypted file sharing directly within conversations.
Wire Drive runs on Wire’s EU-sovereign cloud infrastructure, is GDPR compliant and designed to align with NIS2 and ISO/IEC 27001 requirements. The capability is intended for organisations operating in regulated and security-sensitive environments, including the public sector, critical infrastructure providers and enterprises handling confidential information.
Benjamin Schilz, CEO of Wire, said: “Wire has built its reputation on secure messaging, but the market is moving beyond point solutions. Organisations increasingly need a broader collaboration environment that brings together communication, files and workflows without weakening security or losing control over data. With Wire Drive, we are taking a clear step towards that vision.”
Adam Low, CTO of Wire, added: “File collaboration is often where security architecture becomes fragmented, as users are pushed into disconnected tools with separate permissions and limited visibility. Wire Drive keeps file management and document collaboration within the trusted context of the group. This gives organisations a consistent foundation for security, sovereignty and day-to-day productivity.”
About Wire
Wire is the enterprise-class secure workspace platform, delivering a full suite of messaging, audio, video, and file sharing capabilities for use at scale by teams while staying protected by the industry’s most stringent end-to-end encryption based on the MLS standard that is delightfully invisible to users and always on. Wire provides the enterprise-class alternative to collaboration suites offered by tech giants whose business models monetize their customers’ sensitive data and leave dangerous security holes in their products by design. Wire erases the barrier between the productive collaboration that users want and the data protection, privacy, and compliance that organizations need. Wire is trusted by the world’s most security-sensitive government and defense agencies, global enterprises, and millions of users around the world.
