First customer connected to Hull’s new hyper-fast broadband network

IoT and digital infrastructure specialist Connexin has successfully connected the first customer to its new full-fibre network in Hull and East Riding, a major milestone in the roll-out of the service aimed at breaking the region’s broadband monopoly.

Emma Page, a healthcare worker from East Hull, has become the first user of the new 10 Gbps, full-fibre network, the first and fastest of its kind in the area. This achievement was celebrated at a launch event where Emma and her partner Dean were presented with six months of free service to access Connexin’s hyper-fast broadband.

Emma said: “We’re really pleased with our new connection, we’re saving over £20 a month by switching to Connexin. Plus, my kids are always gaming or online so the boost in speed has been fantastic. It’s been really reliable and the customer service has been spot on. I definitely recommend Connexin Fibre, I’m glad we finally have a choice round here!”

Connexin announced the launch of the new broadband network in September 2021, aiming to disrupt the existing monopoly by offering residents and businesses freedom of choice when selecting a fibre broadband provider.

Hull was the only city in the UK with just one fibre broadband provider dominating the landscape and the introduction of Connexin’s new fibre network will allow for a competitive market to emerge, providing not only options but also improvement in broadband experience. The network will also be one of the first in Europe to be built over an existing full-fibre network as the incumbent provider’s infrastructure isn’t shared, unlike others.

Furqan Alamgir, Founder and CEO of Connexin, said: “Connecting the first customer to our new full-fibre network is not just a momentous occasion for Connexin, but also for Hull and East Riding. It signals the beginning of the end of the region’s broadband monopoly and the introduction of choice for people, bringing real change to the area.

“We have exciting things planned and as we continue to roll-out the network, which will be the fastest across the region, we can’t wait to welcome more customers and to provide homes and businesses with access to ultra and hyper fast broadband at a competitive price, with superior customer service.”
